Course Overview

In today’s fiercely-competitive world, it isn’t enough for entrepreneurs to just innovate and execute. Instead they must actively adopt strategies to protect and exploit their innovation. IP Strategies for Building Competitive Advantage reveals the dynamics of Intellectual Property and lays bare the fundamental IP concepts and legal and business strategies applicable to startups. By the end of the program, Faculty will be equipped to help entrepreneurs in identifying their IP assets and designing effective IP strategies to achieve organizational objectives.

Course Objectives

Graduates of the course will be equipped to mentor or run short-duration courses for entrepreneurs that enable entrepreneurs to develop and execute effective IP strategies for innovation-based companies. The materials could also be incorporated in existing courses on innovation-driven entrepreneurship. The expectation is that graduates will be able to work with both students and entrepreneurs, on the following:

  • Understanding the basic concepts of Intellectual Property Rights, their coverage and scope

  • Designing IP strategies to protect organizational assets, and achieve organizational objectives
  • Understanding IP Rights of third party entities
  • Equipping them with some practical aspects of patent drafting and reading
