If you have an idea, a B Plan or a startup that needs to scale – the E Cell at IIT Bombay is the place to go to. With a wide array of programs, the E Cell reaches over 3,000 new and aspiring entrepreneurs every year.
If you have a B Plan, watch out for Eureka, the oldest and largest B Plan competition in Asia. It received 2,000 entries this year. Five of the eight winning startup last year have already launched their ventures, thanks to intensive one-on-one mentoring and networking opportunities Eureka provided.
For people with ideas, the E Cell runs an annual Ideaz contest to convert ideas into B Plans, and an Entrepreneurship Garage for brainstorming sessions. A unique initiative of the E Cell is its program for student-run startups - the Startup Development Program- where 10 startups on campus have been connected to mentors and resources. It also recently launched the Global Conference of E Cells to provide mentoring support to E Cells in the NEN community and beyond.
So how can a core team of only 22 members run so many high-impact programs? NEN E Leader Neha Rambhia believes it's due to groundwork in depth. From April to June, the team focuses on gathering feedback from past organizers and participants, and reviewing the performance of every program. At least 40 people are interviewed for each program. "This improves our programs for the participants," she says.
