Course Overview
One of the most challenging tasks for an entrepreneurship educator is to conduct engaging, participatory programs for students. The danger in adopting mere classroom teaching methodologies is that although the students might appear to have understood the concepts of entrepreneurship, it is only on applying them in practice that they encounter the real challenges involved. Like any other skill, entrepreneurial skills too are honed with practice. But how does one deliver such practice-oriented programs for student entrepreneurs? What must the constituents of such a program be?
Launching Intensive Programs arms faculty members with the critical skills and tools required to implement practice-oriented entrepreneurship programs on campus. These programs help aspiring student-entrepreneurs to gain a solid, real-world experience in venture creation. By the end of this course, faculty members will be able to specifically design, structure, and launch programs that will intensively engage students in: exploring technologically-driven entrepreneurial opportunities; practice setting up an enterprise, while still on campus; or be a successful intern at a rapidly growing entrepreneurial firm. Each of these programs, if run well, should enable students to develop practical insights, experiences, skills and confidence to start enterprises upon graduation.
Objectives
Graduates of this course will gain a clear understanding of the design, structure, resource allocation, execution requirement and expected outcomes of these practice-oriented programs. They will be able to:
- Understand how to secure funds from Government agencies for innovation and entrepreneurship programs on campus
- Set up the teams, goals, processes, systems, marketing and metrics to successfully run a high-impact Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IEDCs)
- Create Campus Company programs where independent student teams ideate, evaluate new opportunities, build business models and deal with execution challenges
- Develop Startup Internship programs, by identifying startups, setting right expectations, and effectively match students and startups to derive high value from each other
